BURRIDGETTE
December 2009
Merry Christmas!
Those in attendance at the family reunion planning session decided they would like a 1 day family reunion.

This is the agenda:
The reunion is scheduled for July 10, 2010 at Riverdale Resort at Preston, Idaho. Carol and I are going up Friday night to stay in the R.V. park. We have reserved pavilion 1, and R.V. park #1. If our campsite is needed Saturday we will need to move the R.V.s to the parking areas.
It is up to you whether you come on Friday night the 9th of July or just come on Saturday the 10th of July.
If you choose to come Friday night, you will need to reserve R.V. camping, tent area or motel rooms. You will be responsible for your own accommodations and cost. If you are planning on going Friday night, make your reservations now before the park and motel are full.
The Burridge Family funds will pay for the pavilion rental and the swimming fees for those who want to swim.
The auction will be held directly after lunch on Saturday so please be planning or making items for the auction.
All maps and phone #'s are attached at the end of the Burridgette.
We will have a planning meeting in the spring to finalize menu and other details.

Have a wonderful holiday!
LeGrande & Carol Anderson
and the Burridge Family officers

We extend our deepest sympathies to Kyle Ransom and his family upon the death of Pauline Ransom.

Annie Pauline Ransom (Hutchison) (1928-2009)

Annie Pauline Hutchison Ransom died Aug. 27, 2009, of causes incident to age. She was born Nov. 2, 1928, to Charlotte and David Hutchison of Malta, Idaho. Due to health issues her two beloved aunts in Providence, Utah, raised her. She participated in girl's softball, basketball and with a ballroom dance group. She also enjoyed being part of the Christmas Morning Pageant that was a tradition in Providence during that time and which later moved to the old Capital Theater in Logan. Pauline was a lifelong member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and fulfilled many callings including serving a mission in the area known then as the "South Central States" mission. After returning from her mission she took a position in the cash office of a prominent department store in downtown Logan where she met her eternal mate, Kyle S. Ransom. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on Aug. 25, 1953, and settled in Hyde Park, Utah, where they raised their three children, Jed
(Karalee) Ransom, JD (Liz) Ransom and Paula (Curtis) Mason. Pauline and Kyle have given their children many wonderful memories of family times including camping and sightseeing. Pauline is survived by her husband, Kyle, of 56 years and two days; her three children, 10 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Charell (Paul) Harris and Elsie (Fred) Grant. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Jean Hendrickson and Donna Anderson; and three brothers, Robert, Winston and David Hutchison. According to Pauline's last wishes there was no formal viewing or funeral held. She always wanted a good, old-fashioned Southern wake. In lieu of a funeral, there was a short graveside service Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at the Hyde Park, Utah Cemetery. Following that service all friends and family were invited to attend a party in her honor at Lee's Park pavilion across from the family home to reminisce and celebrate Pauline's life.

I deeply apologize again to the family of Orval Neddo Lloyd. Orval passed away on May 30, 2008. I failed to put his obituary into the Burridgette. I feel badly about having neglected this piece of news as I deeply love and admire him and his family. We sincerely extend our sympathies to his family as well.

Orval Neddo Lloyd 1916 ~ 2008

Orval Neddo Lloyd, born May 31, 1916 in Grace, Idaho to Archie E. and Agnes Elizabeth Neddo Lloyd, passed peacefully from this life on May 30, 2008, one day shy of his 92nd birthday. After a full and productive life, his good old heart gave out. Orval spent his youth in Grace, Idaho and Logan, Utah. He served a mission for the LDS Church in the California Mission 1935-1937. He married Thoma Clawson in the Mesa, Arizona Temple on December 8, 1937. They made their home in Tucson, AZ where he graduated from business school and took employment as Field Executive for the Boy Scouts of America in Yakima, Washington. At the start of World War II they returned to Tucson where he worked at Consolidated Aircraft to support the war effort. After the war, he entered the construction industry and moved his young family to Mesa, Arizona where he continued in construction until 1964, when he received a mission call to Great Britain to build chapels for the LDS Church. This proved to be the
adventure of a lifetime for Orval, Thoma, and their three youngest children. During this four year mission, he was asked to supervise the building program for the British Isles, and in 1968 he moved his family to Salt Lake City where he took employment in the International Building Division of the LDS Church. This took him to countries around the world until his retirement in 1985. Orval had a lifelong love of flight, beginning with building model airplanes as a boy. During his early married years he earned his pilot's license 15 minutes at a time, as he could afford it. Later, with the help of his oldest son, he achieved his dream of building his first full sized airplane. Over the next 30 years he built two more biplanes in the basement of his home. In his retirement years he turned again to building model airplanes and enjoyed his associations with R/C modeling clubs and many other aviation associations. Even in his last days, he could not resist the sound of an engine flying
overhead and had to look up to see what was flying in the great blue yonder. Orval was a faithful, active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout his life, serving in the Salt Lake Temple and other callings, as he fully honored the Priesthood. Orval and Thoma were blessed with six children during their 70 year marriage. He is survived by his wife, Thoma, children, Linda (Glenn) Woods, Thatcher, AZ; Anita (David) Jensen, Preston, ID; Roger (Cheryl) Lloyd, Mesa, AZ; Judy (Kenny) Ries, Las Vegas, NV; Debra Gull, Salt Lake City, UT; Barry (Jill) Lloyd, Highland, UT; brother, Bennion (Dorothy) Lloyd, sisters, Phyllis (Howard) Schow, Venice Holt, and many nieces and nephews. His posterity includes 32 grandchildren and 65 great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband and father who will be deeply missed until we see him again. Funeral services were held Fri., June 6, 2008, 11 a.m. at the Hillside Stake Center, 1400 S. 1900 E., Salt Lake City. Friends visited with
the family Thurs. evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Holbrook Mortuary, 3251 S. 2300 E., and at the church Friday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to funeral. Burial was in the Thatcher, Arizona cemetery on June 7, 2008.

News from Melissa Burridge
George Thomas Burridge, Jr. has a few years before retiring from the post office and he and his wife Debbie have a lovely rural property in Riverton, Utah, where they keep chickens for fresh eggs, and a goat, and a couple of Rottweilers. They are happily busy with their many grandchildren. Tom stays connected with his global friends via ham radio and loves his new Harley V-Rod.

Emily Burridge Tipping and her husband, Mark Tipping, are thoroughly enjoying 6-month-old Julian Thomas, who is so sweet and has such cute dimples and is so fun to be with! They are busy running their own company, Sunlight Services, where Mark does handyman and construction and Emily offers commercial, construction, and house cleaning services.
Melissa Burridge is singing under the name Honey B. in Mazatlan, Mexico this season. She is fortunate to be working with some of the best musicians there, and meeting new fans from all over the world. Jon and Toni Burridge and their family have never been better. Jon's business, U.S. Lightworks, continues to grow and thrive as he excels at customer service and his customers love the homemade salsa he produces from his garden every year to give to them.
Jon & Toni & Melissa & Emily Burridge (daughter of George Thomas Burridge, Jr.) all attended the Rusted Root concert at The Depot in SLC as a send-off before Melissa moved to Mexico. Jon and Toni continue to travel to hear great musicians play in large U.S. cities. Their son Jonathan Thomas Burridge is an impressive drummer and his band is gaining a local following. Nicholas Hunter is doing well in 9th grade and is so fun to be around. Jonah is such a big boy now, so smart and such a great communicator! Toni is also thoroughly enjoying the blessing from heaven named River, who is her brothers' sweet baby boy and a healing balm for Toni whose mother passed recently, and too soon.

News from Dennis Anderson
"This summer as we were taking a bunch of grandkids through Grand Canyon, Zion, Bryce and other parts of southern Utah we got a call from RoseMary's nearly 89 year-old mother. She informed us that she had bought a small house in Logan in a "55 and over" development. Before we left Smithfield on the trip, she'd approached us about buying her house from her. We thought she would change her mind or at least put off looking for another house, so it was a bit of a surprise when we received the news. Now we're the latest owners of a house that's as much an heirloom as a residence. It was built by RoseMary's great-grandfather in 1893, when his then family of 5 needed more space than the log cabin that he'd moved onto the property afforded. Eventually 10 children were raised in the house. Around 1905 a kitchen and bathroom were added. In 1940 RoseMary's parents bought the house from his grandmother and she built a smaller home south of her large home. I spent a
good share of last winter updating the wiring on the second floor, not because I expected to own the house, but to make the house better for my mother-in-law. Now we're in the process of updating the wiring in the first floor and basement and remodeling the 4 rooms that still have the original plaster and lathe walls and very old wallpaper. Along the way we've discovered that the laundry room/back porch was a screened-in porch originally and the screens still exist inside the walls. All outside walls of the actual old house are insulated with adobe brick and plaster laid inside the original wall timbers. The walls of a large part of the basement are the original dirt and rocks, just as they were laid down in this area by an ancient river. RoseMary and I have been called as family history consultants. It's an intimidating calling. Even though we do have a lot of family history records, we haven't done very much original research and RoseMary hasn't even been on the new
Family Search website yet.
For the past year and a half, one of our grand-daughters, Chantel, has had an obvious health problem. After much testing, the doctors were sure it was a liver problem, but they haven't been able to figure out what is the exact problem. Every hypothesis was disproven, until this last note on Facebook from Chantel: my wonderful Stanford doctor thinks she figured out what I have. It's called Primary Biliary Cirrhosis or PBC. It's an autoimmune disease where the bile ducts get damaged and makes bile build up in the liver. It's a very slow disease where over a long period of time liver tissue gets damaged and the damage just keeps getting worse. There is no cure for the disease, they just have ways to manage it." As the liver gets more damaged, a transplant may be necessary. It's going to be a long fight for Chantel, but with our prayers and help she should make it. Ryan Steburg, Chantel's younger brother, is a high school senior. He doesn't just play in the Oak Grove High
School marching band, he also composes some of the music for them. The band recently took 14th place in the whole state of California. In addition to the marching band, Ryan also plays with the Jazz band and the Concert band. Robbie Anderson (7th grade) and Alex (9th grade) and Kenny Clarke (8th grade) are other budding band members in our family. Fortunately none of them inherited their grandfather's musical skills."
News from Suzi Palmer "We are going on in our same old way. Kenny is the business manager at a sign company and still on the high council. He's also a commissioner for the Boy Scouts. I am the office manager at a countertop manufacturing plant in Salt Lake. I do accounting for other companies on the side. I am in the Stake Primary Presidency. I love children so this is a perfect calling for me. Jim is going to be a journeyman plumber in about 2 weeks. His wife Becky Ann works in Salt Lake and I get to carpool with her each day. Becky Charell is still a busy Deseret News reporter. Joe returned from his mission to Edmonton, Canada last year and married Heidi Kay in the Logan Temple last April. They just bought a house and are expecting a baby. Joe is also a plumber, though not a journeyman yet. Heidi is going to veterinarian school and working at a vet's office. Mia is married to Brett Hein. They are both students at Weber State and expect to get
their BS degrees in the spring of 2011. Katy is a senior in high school and also taking Culinary Arts classes at the local technical college. Danny is well over 6 feet tall and a sophomore in high school. He wrestles on the JV team and loves to practice on his dad. He works at Bartlett Scout Camp every summer. He loves it. Cami is in 9th grade and is very scientific. She wants to be a brain or heart surgeon. Her goal is to think like a nerd, but not look like one. Matthew will be a deacon in January. He is a straight A student and has many friends. We are just going along well in our lives and enjoying the love of family and friends. Couldn't get better!"
News from Gary Neeleman "We now have 33 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren, three of which were born in the last couple of months. The count is now 20 granddaughters and 17 grandsons, including the greats. Our oldest, John, lives in Seattle and is practicing law and both he and his wife, Gwendolyn, are partners in the law firm Lane Powell. John has 5 children. Son, David, and wife, Vicki, still live in New Canaan, CT although David commutes weekly between NY/JFK and Sao Paulo, Brazil as he launched his new airline, Azul Airways one year ago this month. The airline is doing great having flown nearly 2 million passengers in the past year with 14 aircraft--Brazilian made E195 with 118 seats. The airline serves 20 Brazilian cities. David's son, Daniel, just returned from his mission in Brazil and his daughter, Hilary, returned from her mission in Costa Rica. Ashley, David's oldest, had her second baby last month.
Daughter, Julie, and her husband, Bart, live in Orderville, Utah. Julie's daughter, April, had her first baby last month, and her son, Jacob, is serving his mission in the Lubbock, TX mission and her next son, Tyler is preparing for his mission in March 2010. Julie has four children. Our daughter, Pamela Clark, and her husband, Stephen, live on our family ranch in Southern Utah on the border of Zion National Park. Their Quadruplets are just turning 5 on Dec. 21st. Check the web site http://www.zionponderosa.com/. Our son, Stephen and his wife, Christine, live in Alpine Utah with their 5 children. Stephen practices medicine at the IHC Hospital system in Utah County and is the CEO of his own HSA insurance company, Health Equity.
Lisa and her husband, Mike lives in Draper, Utah with their 6 children. Mike and Lisa bought Grandpa Neeleman's
Miniature Market on 33rd South and 3rd East from the family and have now added 3 more stores and a Laundromat.
Mark, our youngest, is living in Brazil and working with his brother, David, at Azul Airways and loving it. He served his mission in Brazil, as well and speaks beautiful Portuguese.
We have very close contact with all of our children and grandchildren and are still very busy working with the Washington Post, Newsweek Magazine, and several other media companies for which we consult. I am still the Honorary Consul for Brazil in Utah. Rose and I completed a Brazilian Cookbook in English. A Taste of Brazil, with over 100 recipes. The recipes
are all adapted to US supermarket ingredients. It is sold on Amazon.com. We are in the process of writing another book about a jungle railroad in the heart of the Amazon.
My brother, Stan, and his wife, Sherie, left for Brazil last week to serve as Temple President and Matron in the Sao Paulo, Brazil temple.

New Babies
David and Marla Hansen welcomed a beautiful baby girl into their home. She was born the 9th of June. Her name is Annie Jo. She is especially loved by her siblings, Sydney, Sammy, Amber, and her grandparents, Elsie and Fred Grant.

Brian and Cassie Anderson welcomed Copelin Anderson into their family on August 16th. He has had a very rough start on life. He was born with an infection and spent extra time in the hospital. Then when he was a month old, he became very ill and was life flighted to Primary Children's Medical Center. He was diagnosed with Supraventricular Tachycardia (or called SVT) which is an abnormal heart rhythm (or arrhythmia) that starts in the upper chambers of the heart and causes the heart to beat rapidly. They also said that he has Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (or called WPW) which is an accessory pathway. The extra pathway provides a second route by which electrical impulses can reach the ventricles. An accessory pathway may allow impulses to travel abnormally fast. They also said he had congestive heart failure because his heart had been in this mode for quite awhile, so his heart was weak and only working 30%.....his body was shutting down. After 8 days in the hospital and many
tears and prayers, he is doing well on the medication. He will be on medication at least until he is one year old, then they are going to slowly wing him off the meds and see how his body reacts. Copelin will have to have Dr's visits at Primary Childrens every month to every other month to see his heart specialist. Copelin is the fourth grandbaby to join Randy and Raeleen Anderson's family in 2009.

Burridge Reunion 2009

Our 2009 Burridge Reunion was a huge success!!! We were excited to see the almost 50 loved ones to get acquainted and re-acquainted with. Everyone enjoyed the beautiful scenery, and lots of delicious food. We had some that were to the first reunion and many that were there for the first time. It was wonderful to see those that haven’t attended for a while as well as those that come regularly. We had lots of children that played and enjoyed each other. It was fun to see so many of them get along so well. We had activities for everyone. We had beads being strung by people of all ages making bracelets, necklaces, key chain lizards and bees, and dream catchers for the auction (thanks Sara and Carson). We had a treasure hunt in packing peanuts for the children as well as hula hoop twirling and lots of exploring. We especially had lots of visiting and memory making.

Their son, Trevor, is in Colorado Springs running his own business and doing well. He seems to have found his "home" there and is happy. Nikki has moved back to Cache Valley where she is endeavoring to continue her education and employment. After high school Nikki took a short sabbatical to Colorado Springs and stayed with Trevor for about a year. She enjoyed getting to know her big brother again, and according to Mom it was good for all four Masons.

Kyle and Pauline are also still in Cache Valley and doing as well as possible. Kyle is looking forward to fishing in local waters again, and after having spent his first winter in Utah in many, many, years is very much looking forward to the warmth of summer. Pauline is hanging in there as well as she can. Unfortunately time and age has caught up with her and she is now in need of round-the-clock care. She loves to receive visitors and reminisce about the old times.

NEWS
From Dennis Anderson
“Sitting in the kitchen, contemplating the blizzard raging outside, itstrikes me again what a strange quirk of fate it has been that has led us in acircle. Obviously we are no longer in San Jose. We aren’t even in Californiabut somehow we are back in Smithfield, Utah in RoseMary’s ancestral home, living with her mother. It was always our intention to return to Cache Valley at some time, but wethought it would be at a much later time in our lives. Over the course of the past year, RoseMary’s health has become a small issue. The last straw cameduring a June visit to Oregon when she was hospitalized for several days. Atthat time we decided to close down her business, Progressive Panel Installations, Inc. We had no idea about what we would do, but it was apparentthat we had invested too much time, money and effort into the company, especially with RoseMary’s minor recurring health problems. Within two weeks after making that decision, we received a call from hersister that they needed to go to Arizona for the winter because of herhusband’s health. She asked if we could return to Utah to help their 88year-old mother for the winter months. Over the next few weeks we receivedseveral confirmations from the Spirit that we should return to Utah. With a lot of help from family and friends we managed to clean out ourhuge warehouse and dispose of the assets of the business. Simultaneously wewere finishing a major renovation on our home and preparing for the move. Due to the economic downturn, we were unable to sell our home. Our oldestdaughter, Anita and her family stepped in and agreed to rent our home for a yearor two. Most of the house is better now than when it was built nearly 50 yearsago. And so it was that November found the three of us, Dennis, RoseMary andour 12 year-old grandson, Robbie, moving to RoseMary’s mother’s house. Ourclothes, furniture, books and other belongings are split between a storage unitin Logan, the garage, our home in San Jose and just a necessary few things inthe two bedrooms we occupy in Smithfield. Robbie is enrolled in the sixth gradein Cedar Ridge middle school where he’s making a successful transition. We will miss being in San Jose with our children and grand-children forChristmas. This will be the first Christmas since we left Cache Valley 40 yearsago that we haven’t been surrounded by our descendants. But we have atestimony that this is where we need to be. During July, we had a first-ever “Donna and Ray Anderson” week-longreunion at Rockaway Beach, Oregon. RoseMary and I were several days latebecause of complications in cleaning out the warehouse, but we did get to spenda couple of good days with LeGrande, Randy, Cheri, Jeff and some of their kids. From Oregon we left for two weeks in Yellowstone and Northern Utah with seven ofour grandkids before resuming our San Jose preparations for the move. Three of our grandchildren are attending community colleges in San Jose– Michael Steburg, Chantel Steburg and Brandon Mutz. Cheri Mutz and JarretWilliams started their own office furniture delivery and installation business, modeled after Progressive, but without the overhead and baggage that RoseMaryand her partner had. Ryan Steburg is in the Oak Grove High School marching bandand Brittany Mutz was a part of a competitive cheer-leading squad with theSunnyvale, CA Pop Warner league. In April and May, I had the privilege of ordaining Robbie a deacon andAlex Clarke, another grandson, a teacher. It was also my pleasure to ordainAlex’ brother, Kenny, to the office of deacon in September. As grandparentsand parents we hope and pray that our descendants will learn to be as faithfulas many of our ancestors were.”

SURVEY
I want to sell you the Burridge Reunion
I once had a student whose very rich gma gave him "experiences" for gifts, rather than "stuff". She gave him trips and lessons and concerts, etc...things nobody could ever take away from him. This concept, coupled with the concept that if I want to sell you something, I find out what it is you want and need rather than telling you what I think I want you to like. So, this is trying to be a combination of those concepts in SELLING YOU THE EXPERIENCE OF THE BURRIDGE FAMILY REUNION and giving you many things that can never be taken from you and your children and enriching each others' lives.
What is your favorite memory(s) of any Family Reunion you have ever been to?
What do you have to bring/share/ etc. in the way of a camper/trailer/motor home, horses, four wheelers, snow mobiles, boat--(or do you know of some that can be borrowed or rented or such?)
What types of games/activities would you like to participate in, viz. volleyball, water-skiing, baseball, snowmobiling, etc. You don't have to be proficient already--just what are you interested in?
What would you like to see or learn about in the way of things of local interest (tour a dairy, tour a beekeeping operation, go to Lagoon, see Eifel Tower :), go to Timpanogos, Scottish bagpipe parade, Manti pageant, Martin Harris pageant, hiking, Shakespearean Festival, etc?
What are the best times of the year for you to take two or three days off for a Burridge Family Reunion?
What places do you know of that we could rent for our reunion? This could be cabins, motels, camps, RV parks, whatever. Be creative--the more ideas we get here the wider our chances of success.
Would you like to see our Burridge Reunion occupy a Sunday where we could share testimonies and family heritage skits and music and such? What else would you like to see us do together on a Sunday?
What musical instruments do you play and would you be willing to practice several numbers that we could get together and play for a couple of hours at the B Reunion? Would you be willing to choose music, distribute it to people (in the right key for each instrument-with variable ability levels, etc), and conduct at the Reunion?
What talents do you have that you could show and share at the Reunion?
Will you sing if someone chose songs with parts and sent you two or three practice pieces? What part do you sing? What songs do you suggest? Would you like to be in charge of this activity?
What "classes" would you like to have at the Reunion AND what classes would you like to teach (about 15 minutes or half hour each perhaps?). Examples are guitar, music, handstands, how to skip faster, do one-handed push-ups, weaving, beading, painting, karate kata, reading better, hair braiding, dancing, sculpting, passive solar house design, upholstery, changing a tire, sewing, pruning trees--What do you know that can enrich others' lives and what would you like to learn?
What would you like to purchase at the auction, viz. a Burridge rose start, an afghan, a painting, hot pads, lead glass, a sculpture, jewelry, etc.
What can you offer at the auction?
What are some of your favorite family ancestor stories (viz. gma pinning the wolf's neck to the ground to save the cows!) and favorite church stories (Abinadi?) AND would you put them in writing so we can read them in a reader's theater or put on costumes and act them out (Would anyone object to this being one of our Sunday activities?)
What is your age? The ages of your family members that you could bring? What are your special needs or hopes for their comfort and experience at our Reunion?
Did you go to the Reunion last year? If "yes", why? If "no", why not?
